GSF Fundraising Challenge
GSF challenges students to raise money to support international development projects.
But that's only part of the challenge. Before raising money, you are encouraged to decide on the most effective way of channelling the monies raised - which involves deciding which organisations or projects to support, and for what purpose.
Raising money to support development projects can make a real difference and save lives, as well as help tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice. Furthermore, fundraising can lead to further learning about global issues, and about how to support communities in the most appropriate and effective way. And it can also help develop essential skills for changing the world around you. However, if fundraising is to be truly educational in all these ways and avoid perpetuating negative stereotypes, great care is needed.
Pages 24-25 of Making the Most of Global Student Forum provide tips for effective, educational and responsible fundraising, and information that may help you decide where to send the money you raise.
GSF strongly recommends that all fundraising activity:
- follows Think Global's Guidelines for Good Practice in Fundraising with Young People.
- is presented as one of a range of ways in which people can respond to the issues they are exploring.
