GSF2010

In GSF2010 we:

  • explored why 72 million of the world's children miss out on a primary education, and the difference that education would make to their life chances.
  • joined with people across the world to call for universal primary education (the second Millennium Development Goal - MDG2) while examining what needs to happen in order to  achieve this goal.
  • considered ways in which UK school students can play their part in achieving MDG2.

Students returned to their schools inspired and equipped to be peer educators, running lessons and assemblies, as well as broadcasting their message through various media.

Stephen O'Brien, Minister for International Development said "I'd like to thank each of the students for the work they'll be doing to teach others about global poverty. Their efforts will influence so many people to take vital action on the issues facing millions of people across the world blighted by poverty."

GSF2010 linked to the global 1GOAL campaign, which aimed to seize the power of football to ensure education for all as a lasting impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals.

What people say

"The Global Student Forum provides an excellent opportunity for 16-19 year olds to speak out and be heard.  We will be listening carefully to what they think about the important issues facing us all as citizens of today's world."
