The Global Student Forum joins the global community to celebrate the transformative work that teachers do to educate students in the formal and informal education sector. World Teacher’s Day also marks the “adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organisation and UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions”.
As a student organisation that advocates for the rights of students, we stand at the helm of the student movement invested in supporting teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theme for this year’s teacher’s day is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”. UNESCO in collaboration with the International Labour organisation (ILO), UNICEF and Education International (EI) has pledged to support teachers through the recovery process.
We call on these social organisations to align with all other education stakeholders, civil society organisations, NGOs, ministers of education and grassroots teacher consortia and health practitioners to join forces to champion this course because we need children to return to a safe space for learning with capable and healthy teachers. We plead with these organisations to re-examine the conditions of pay for teachers globally.
We support the live streamed Tribute Event that International Education has organised this 5th of October at 13 H CEST to pay tribute to all the teachers that we lost due to the pandemic. It will include music, poetry, messages and a call to action around safe working conditions and vaccine equity. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken an enormous toll on education. Beyond school closures and lost learning, we have lost countless educators. The act also proposes a minute of silence. This year, more than calling for action, we also call for a pause; it is necessary to meditate about the losses and the current situation in the educational sector. A non-action that will allow us to rethink the future with more consciousness than ever before.
The Global Student Forum stands in support and solidarity with teachers who are crucial to a sustainable future through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Día Mundial de los Docentes
El Foro Global de Estudiantes se une a la comunidad global para celebrar el trabajo transformador que hacen los maestros para educar a los estudiantes en el sector de la educación formal e informal. El Día Mundial de los Docentes también marca la “adopción de la recomendación de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo y la UNESCO de 1966 sobre la situación de los docentes, que establece puntos de referencia sobre los derechos y responsabilidades de los docentes, y normas para su preparación inicial y posterior educación, contratación, empleo y enseñanza y condiciones de aprendizaje”.
Como organización estudiantil que aboga por los derechos de los estudiantes, estamos al frente del movimiento estudiantil que apuesta por apoyar a los maestros durante la pandemia de COVID-19. El tema del día del maestro de este año es “Los maestros en el centro de la recuperación de la educación”. La UNESCO, en colaboración con la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), UNICEF y la Internacional de la Educación (IE) se ha comprometido a dar el soporte necesario a los docentes durante el proceso de recuperación.
Hacemos un llamamiento a estas organizaciones sociales para que se alineen con todos los demás interesados en la educación, organizaciones de la sociedad civil, ONG, ministros de educación y consorcios de maestros de base y profesionales de la salud; uniendo fuerzas para defender el lema de este año porque necesitamos que los niños regresen a un espacio seguro para aprender con maestros que estén capacitados para las tareas y en un buen estado de salud. Rogamos a estas organizaciones que vuelvan a examinar las condiciones de pago de los docentes a nivel mundial.
Apoyamos el Evento Tributo, retransmitido en directo, que International Education ha organizado este 5 de octubre a las 13 H CEST para rendir homenaje a todos los docentes que perdimos debido a la pandemia. Incluirá música, poesía, mensajes y un llamamiento a la acción en torno a condiciones de trabajo seguras y equidad en las vacunas. La pandemia de COVID-19 ha afectado enormemente a la educación. Más allá del cierre de escuelas y la pérdida de aprendizaje, hemos perdido a innumerables educadores. El acto también propone un minuto de silencio. Este año, más que pedir una acción, también pedimos una pausa; es necesario meditar sobre las pérdidas y la situación actual del sector educativo. Una no-acción que nos permitirá repensar el futuro con más conciencia que nunca.
El Foro Global de Estudiantes apoya y se solidariza con los maestros que son cruciales para un futuro sostenible a través y más allá de la pandemia de COVID-19.
