Students Organizing for Sustainability International (SOS International) and the Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund (SAIH) have joined the Global Student Forum (GSF) as associate members. SOS International and SAIH’s membership admission is raising the number of student unions within the Global Student Forum to 201 organisations, from 121 different countries.

About SOS international

SOS supports student and youth groups globally to lead on sustainability and social justice. The international organisation is working with GSF on supporting students’ unions around the world to take action on climate emergencies and ecological crises.

They convene (inter)national student-led and student-focused organisations, working on sustainability and social justice, to support more and better action among education institutions and student organisations; scale programs and campaigns to have wider reach and greater impact; strengthen the capacity of member organisations to empower student leadership; and amplify the voice of students worldwide to influence systemic change.

About SAIH

SAIH is the solidarity organisation of students and academics in Norway, which motto is “education for liberation”. It is a politically independent organisation, supporting 30 organisations in seven countries in Latin America, Southern Africa and Asia. Through higher education and training, young people are given the tools for critical and independent thinking, so that they can participate in public debate and help create a more just and inclusive society.

Students and academics risk being threatened to death when engaging politically. SAIH works to promote the right to academic freedom. Solidarity, equality and non-discrimination are important values that form the basis for the entity. Ever since it was established in 1961, Norwegian students have supported SAIH’s work through the SAIH tenners

About the Global Student Forum

The Global Student Forum was founded by the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), Commonwealth Students’ Association (CSA), European Students’ Union (ESU), Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU), Organización Continental Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Estudiantes (OCLAE) and other national student organisations and movements. Through its membership, it currently represents 201 student unions from 121 countries.

The organisation is a platform for students and their movements to build networks and facilitate active solidarity through digital campaigns and on the ground action. Through cooperation, analysis and strategy it serves as a coordinator for targeted political action and advocacy efforts facilitated for and by students.
