About

Global Research

The Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund (SAIH) is conducting research for its upcoming report with the goal of understanding university student activism and the ways in which authority figures impede this activism. In recent years, many countries around the world have seen shrinking of civic space and increasing efforts to silence activists and human rights defenders, including students.

This research is being conducted by independent researchers, Amy Kapit and Héctor Ríos-Jara. This research builds on a previous report published in March 2023, Activism Under Attack: Understanding the Repression of University Student Activism.

In an effort to understand the experiences of student activists in the face of threats and attacks, we are conducting both a survey and qualitative interviews with students in order to learn more about their experiences. Participants should be current or recent undergraduate, masters, or doctoral students engaged in some kind of social or political action (either organized or unorganized) on behalf of others or to improve society. Participants should be at least 18 years of age.
